Electric lights have been around since the 1800s and the basic lightbulb as patented by Thomas Edison has been the defacto light source for a long time. Years ago we weren’t concerned with how much power we used lighting our lives but now with the cost of electricity and the strain on our munincipal power recources relulting in power outages we have to rethink our approach. In most instances we can replace our regular incandescent lighting with much more efficient compact fluourescent bulbs or LED bulbs(LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes) which put out alot of light at a fraction of the power consumption of conventional bulbs. At first these new light sources did not put out pleasing light and were not dimmable. But now we have these highly efficient sources that are available in more pleasing colors and dimmable. If you have a lot of lights and you were to change them out for these new highly efficient ones you will also see a lowering of your electrcic bill.
In future articles I will give you more info on improving lighting but on many other electrical topics as well.
